About Family Ties

Had a conversation with a friend today about a mutual acquaintance, F...

Me: omigawd. i don't believe F did that, it sounds like something out of jerry springer!
T: yeah. from an episode titled "i slept with my sister's fiance and ended up pregnant".
Me: christ... the thing i don't get is why she would tell G about it. i mean... what the hell was she thinking? that he was gonna get together with her when he and G split up?
T: probably. why else would she? it's not like it's something she would let slip.
Me: hmmm... nor is it something that'd come up in everyday conversation, huh?
T: yup.
Me: so she's willing to sacrifice her relationship with G and the rest of her family, just for the off-chance this asshole might want something more permanent with her when he was already engaged to her sister?!
T: i guess to some, family ties aren't that important.
Me: man. i wonder what the fuck she's gonna do when he runs in the opposite direction. probably go loco and throw herself off bukit timah hill.
T: yeah, especially since she's not going to have her family on her side when he does.
G's obviously not talking to her. and i heard that both the parents aren't either, they're so appalled by what she did.

Makes you wonder how many people still believe all the claims of blood being thicker than water, doesn't it? The whole notion of families sticking together through thick and thin, being there for one another in good times and in bad. F evidently didn't think much of it when she embarked on the affair with her future brother-in-law. And if her sister and parents leave her alone while she's desperate and pregnant, then they evidently don't put much store by sharing a bloodline either.

Not to say that I don't sympathize with F's sister and parents. Talk about being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. But that's besides the point here... Come to think of it, I'm not even sure I have a point. I'm just wondering how far family ties can stretch when faced with extreme betrayals like the 1 above.

Side note to Slinky: A friend sent me this tattoo about 4 years back. I love how it can either be 2 angels facing opposite directions, or an angel and some gothic creature facing each other, depending on how you look at the figure on the right. Never could make myself do it though... I think I have a fear of portrait tattoos coming alive. Hahaha... Too much X-Files. :P

I'm not a big fan of portrait tattoos either (although for a amrkedly different reason :)) but I have to say that the almost sepia-toned treatment of this tattoo is really lovely. How did they do that? maybe I should get that effect for my next tattoo......

Wanna 'nother tattoo!
