About Crazy Cranium

Oh gawd. Just spent the whole night playing this totally kick-ass game called "Cranium" with my boss and colleagues and we had the wackiest time. If you've never heard of it (I hadn't...), here's an exerpt from the review given by Toysrus.com & Amazon.com...

"Spell a word backwards, hum a tune, answer a multiple-choice question, draw with your eyes closed, and more when you play Cranium.

Cards from four decks, color-coded to match each of the crazy characters - Star Performer, Creative Cat, Data Head, and Word Worm - describe activities that teams must complete in order to advance around the board. If you choose a Sculptorades card from the Creative Cat deck, for example, you might be asked to sculpt a hamburger from lemon-scented Cranium Clay while your teammates try to guess what you're creating.

To win the game, teams have to make it to Cranium Central - the large purple brain in the center of the board - and then successfully complete one activity from each of the four decks. The result is that the team with the best combination of abilities comes out on top."

It was freaking hilarious to watch The Boss try to sculpt the Leaning Tower of Pisa from a mangled purple lump of plasticine. Missduhr, too, was extremely entertaining with her impression of a platform shoe. *cackles like a loon*

I had such a blast, I reckon it's a game I'm gonna end up getting for myself... It's the perfect game to play with a large group of friends the next time you're stumped for something to do. I guarantee you'll end up laughing yourselves silly. We sure as hell did...

Can't wait till the next round guys! (Even though I so know that I've put on 5 pounds from K's chocolate fondue!) Heh... :P

About The Confirmation

I swear, unless they come up with some super-duper, power-wower deal that any living person wouldn't be able to resist, I'm not using AsiaRooms.com to make hotel bookings ever again!

At 1pm, since I hadn't heard back from those incompetent imbeciles, I called their customer service hotline in Bangkok to cancel my reservations. Several attempts (And many, many minutes wasted from being put on hold!) later, I was livid. Needless to say, when they finally picked up my call, the CSO got blasted pretty bad. The poor girl could barely string 3 words together by the time I slammed down the phone.

For those of you who don't know me, I can be bloody fucking scary when I'm pissed off. Someone once told me that my words got so cutting, I'd slit my own throat and bleed to death if I swallowed... *shrugs* I found that quite complimentary. Heh... At least I know I can be aggressive assertive when the situation calls for it. :P

Anyway... 15 minutes after my slice-the-CSO-to-the-bone phone call, I was practically doing a jig in the office. I'd received a confirmation email from Zuji stating that my hotel room was booked... And at a cheaper rate too! Wooohooo!

I was feeling so good about myself, I even found what happened next funny. For some reason, AsiaRooms.com decided to respond to my chaser emails after I'd cancelled my reservations with them.

Sheesh.

My last note to them read...
Kindly revert on my earlier enquiry asap as my flight dates have already been confirmed. If the requested accommodation is unavailable, I'll proceed to make a booking for another hotel. Much appreciated.
Their reply some 24 hours later...
First of all we must apologize for our late reply. At the moment we still waiting the hotel reply us back about the final status of your booking. It takes a bit long time because the hotel situation is very tight and the hotel still ask us to waiting. However we will push the hotel to give the answer for you as soon as possible.
Now as you probably know, crappy English usually annoys me to no end. So the fact that I can actually laugh at the above reply gives you an idea about how happy I am anticipating this vacation. 5 (Yep, count em! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!!!) days of shopping, eating and hanging out with my best friend in the whole wide world... I love ya babe! :)

Oh. And screw you A. I hope you have an absolutely miserable time in The Land of Smiles with you-know-who. It'll serve you right for marring my holiday plans from the get-go. (Yes, this is me indulging myself in 1 of my petty, vindictive snits.)

About Holidaying Online

After many MANY months of futile hopes and plans, Dumpieus aka Princess Lilliput and I finally have our next holiday mapped out. Asia's shopping mecca. The Pearl of the Orient. Ding dong Hong Kong. Here we come!

RAVE OF THE DAY...

Online reservation systems.

Since we waited till the 11th hour to make our bookings, all the damn flights were full, that is, all the flights that didn't cost us an arm and a leg were full. So unless we were willing (Which we weren't!) to fork out a whopping $490 each (Plus another freaking $98 for tax!) for a bloody SQ ticket, I figured our holiday dreams had fallen through yet again.

Then... (The dude upstairs apparently heard my muttered threats pleas!) A travel agent finally called me back with the information that Valuair had seats available for the dates we wanted. At a "mere" $254 per ticket. *cough cough* Compared that to the exorbitant Singapore Airlines price tag, and I was more than happy to take whatever handout was being given. So I made a reservation and promised to confirm my booking within 24 hours.

4 hours before deadline, I decided, on a lark, to double check ticket prices on the Valuair website. Lo and behold... I realized that if I booked and paid for my tickets online, PL and I would save a neat $50 each. Bravo, April, bravo! I wasted no time in cancelling my previous booking and getting my new, cheaper e-tickets issued. Which was done, boxed and wrapped within 15 minutes.

Online reservation systems kick ass!

RANT OF THE DAY...

Online reservation systems.

Buoyed by my previous success, I proceeded to look up and reserve our preferred hotel via an online reservation system as well. Imagine how impressed I was when I received an email within 30 seconds of filling up all my credit details and clicking the site's {CONFIRM} button. That feeling faded a little as I read the mail's contents...

Dear April,

Thank you for your reservation at asiarooms.com. Please find following your contact and reservation details. If something is wrong contact us as soon as possible in order to correct it. To contact us, please use the contact us link on your status page or on the asiarooms.com website or call us by phone.

Kind Regards
Reservation Dept.

Ok. Maybe I was expecting a little too much. After all, simply because the internet is pretty much a real-time medium, doesn't mean that everything has to be done instantaneously, right? *rolls eyes* My spirits lifted about 15 minutes later when I got another email from AsiaRooms.com. "Yay!" I thought. "That settles it!" Uh huh... Riiiiiight.
Dear April,

Thank you for your reservation at AsiaRooms.com.

Booking Reference: XXXXXX.

We are pleased to inform you that your credit card has been successfully verified for the total amout of XXX.XX USD.

Your reservation is under process: We will now send the reservation to the hotel and you will receive a feedback for your final status within 24 hours. Nethertheless, during high season / busy period, the status may be delayed depending on the hotel's situation.

Kind Regards
Reservation Dept.
At first, I was like, what the?!?!?! Then I made myself take a deep breath. It was ok, I could wait 24 hours. That didn't mean I was gonna sit on my laurels though... So I sent them a very politely-worded "chaser", requesting that they revert as soon as possible, as my flights were already booked and as such, I needed to firm up my accommodation plans as well.

No reply.

By the way, what is up with the crappy English on the auto-reponse email?!
1) "... you will receive a feedback for your final status..."
2) "By clicking here you can check anytime the status of your booking..."

Sheeeeeeeeeeesh! Aaaaaaanyway... Tick tock tick tock...

24 hours later. I alternate between checking my email and refreshing the {BOOKING STATUS} page online. Nothing. No change. My booking hasn't been confirmed and I can't make another booking until I know for a fact that my credit card won't be charged with this 1! Fuck! I send them another email, not so nicely-worded this time.

Tick tock tick tock...

It's been 36 hours and counting. Still nothing! Christ on a crutch. They have another 12 hours. If I don't hear from the damn Reservations Department by lunch tomorrow, these incompetent mofos are gonna get a really nasty cancellation phone call. Especially since their fucking customer service hotlines for Asiapac are in Bangkok and Hong Kong (Which probably explains the email's sucky English!), meaning I'll need to pay goddamn IDD charges to settle this.

Grrrrrr...

Online reservation systems deserve a kick in the ass!

About A Rock & A Hard Place

See the stone set in your eyes,
See the thorn twist in your side,
I wait for you...

Sleight of hand and twist of fate,
On a bed of nails she makes me wait,
And I wait, without you...

With or without you, with or without you...

Through the storm we reach the shore,
You give it all but I want more,
And I’m waiting for you...

With or without you, with or without you,
I can’t live...
With or without you...

And you give yourself away, and you give yourself away
And you give, and you give,
And you give yourself away...

My hands are tied, my body bruised,
She’s got me with nothing to win and,
Nothing left to lose...

And you give yourself away, and you give yourself away,
And you give, and you give,
And you give yourself away...

With or without you, with or without you,
I can’t live,
With or without you...

With or without you, with or without you,
I can’t live,
With or without you,
With or without you...

About Grin & Bear It

There are times I feel like...
- Walking straight out the door...
- Finding a large, deserted space...
- Sitting down right in the middle of it...
- Screaming till I go totally hoarse...

As it is, I'm stuck in the office on a Monday afternoon, fighting to keep the frustration buried inside me, instead of letting it all spew out which it's been threatening to do so since lunch. Thankfully, with the exception of a few runaway tears getting the better of me, I've managed to keep a pretty tight lid on it.

I can deal with this. I can.

I can still go on holiday and enjoy myself 100%. I can.

I can be a happier person despite everything I put myself through. I can.

I can love and hate a person at the same time. I can.

About The String

I was a little befuddled earlier today when a friend of mine logged into MSN and that little notication window popped up announcing that "hope hangs on a string" is online.

Brows furrowed, I spent several seconds trying to decipher what exactly he was trying to say.

Then... Enlightenment dawned... Befuddlement turned to derisive amusement... And I fought to contain a very un-ladylike snort as I sent him a rather condescending message. :P

Me: eh kotek...
The String: what?
Me: about your nick... don't you mean hope hangs BY a THREAD???
The String: hah?
The String: same thing what!
Me: ...

Call me a grammar nazi but waaaaah laaaaaaaaaaau?!?!?! Every once in a while, The String reminds me why I don't hang out with him as much as I use to...

About Anonymity

My last few entries have been entirely superficial, I know... I haven't had the heart to blog much. Not about anything overtly personal / meaningful / intelligent at least. Which, in my opinion, makes my blog quite superfluous since most of what I'm posting up is utter rubbish.

I'm not sure what happened exactly but I think it started after
this post...

Self-censorship has always been a problem for me. I know that my opinions might not be worth much, shallow and insipid ditz I am, but I believe that I have a right to be allowed to express whatever I feel freely. However, because I'm the sort of person who finds it difficult to draw the line when it comes to saying what I feel (The saccharine way I talk when dealing with idiotic clients doesn't count!), I think I unconsciously went from 1 extreme to the other, and stopped blogging about anything even remotely personal in nature.

I wish I could brush it off... You know... Adopt the "Fuck-you-I-don't-give-a-shit-if-you-don't-like-what-I'm-writing-or-if-you-have-a-problem-with-me" attitude. Normally, I would... But it became a different ball game once I was informed that some of my colleagues read my blog.

Never 1 to conform to society's norms, I now feel compelled to reign myself in. 2 reasons - I don't feel comfortable with the idea of colleagues being privy to what I do with my life outside the office, and I can't be bothered to risk the shit hitting the fan if I ever decide to post up an unpleasant entry about someone / something at work.

I see now that I made a mistake when I decided not to remain anonymous on my blog. Kudos to Finicky Feline, Fat Fingers, Slinky Cat, Bubblemunche, JaG and the like... You guys had the right idea from the start.

I'm now deciding if I should stop blogging altogether... It seems like a total waste of time if I constantly have to monitor what I write and worry about whether it'll start a shit storm at work. I'd rather play Roller Coaster Tycoon or Starcraft. No gives a flying fuck about what I do or say there. Heh! :P

About Tru Calling

RAVE OF THE DAY...

"Tru Calling". From rogue Slayer to the girl who relives days and saves lives, Eliza Dushku totally kicks ass as Tru Davies. And Jason Priestley does a pretty good job playing her nemesis, Jack Harper. You'd never know it from the crappy boy-next-door role he had in "90210", but he makes a very attractive bad guy.

RANT OF THE DAY...

News has it that the series, popular as it was, got axed after it's 2nd season. Sheesh. 1st "BtVS", then "Angel", now "Tru Calling". Thanks a lot... Where the hell are Buffanatics like me gonna get their fix now, eh?!

About The Rival

I'm still trying to decide if I regret asking her to go with me to Jay's concert in KL earlier this year. Since that fateful night, she's been living under the delusion that she and Jay are meant to be...

I can't understand why she refuses to accept the inevitable, why she fails to see what's right in front of her face, why she can't admit that the only person meant to be with Jay is ME...

And as annoying as that can be, I, being the wonderful, magnanimous, loving, sweet-natured friend that I am, still love her to bits. *grin*

HAPPY 27TH BIRTHDAY JAIME BABE!!!
(aka J aka Missduhr aka Cupcake aka Fellow-Noisy-Old-Bitch)

About Freakster Vs Friendster

Don't say I didn't warn you but I've got another Friendster-related rant coming up so if my little sessions annoy you, don't bother reading the rest of this post.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know... I've bitched about this a gazillion times before... Like
here and here and... Errr... Ok. Make that... I've bitched about this twice before. 3rd time's the charm, no?

Anyway... I logged on to Friendster after about a week and found 47 new messages waiting in my little inbox. All sent between last Thursday and today. Uh huh. Whoopee-doo. Ain't I popular? *gag* Maybe it's a "middle-of-the-month" thingie. Prior to this, my inbox has had less action than a nun locked in a roomful of gay men... Talk about going from 1 end of the spectrum to the other.

I now have to deal (AGAIN!) with the fact that...
1) I can apparently attract a lot of guys of a certain, errr, calibre, shall we say, within a relatively short period. All I have to do is smile insipidly and look vapid. *mumbles under breath*
2) Singapore has more weird, desperate, UGLY men than I ever thought possible.

Mental note to self: Must remember to tell mum about this the next time she starts to worry about her daughter getting left on the shelf. All she has to put up with is me dating a dude who looks like a toad, speaks like a moron and writes worse than a semi-intelligent chimpanzee.

Don't believe me? Check these out...

And I thought my life was boring. At least my mum doesn't require me as entertainment. She has mahjong, high tea sessions, the TV and DVD player. Sheesh.

Subject: hi
Message: Hi April, juz like to say u look bery photogenic and sweet and yes, tat's a compliment...hope to know more abt u and hear fr u soon k..meantime take care and cheerz..

Firstly... I hate people who say "bery" in place or "very". I can never figure out if they're trying to act cute (which is grossly annoying in any man) or if they hit the "b" by mistake, since it's right next to the "v".

A compliment?! Really?! Since adjectives like "photogenic" and "sweet" were used, I sorta could've sworn you were being insulting. You should've called me a toady-looking, repulsive little skank. Then I might be flattered. *yawns*

Subject: hi

No lo. You evidently don't know jackshit lo. You should learn to use that cavity you call a brain sometimes and learn never to judge a book by its cover lo. You should seriously consider linguistic counselling too lo. I am going to stop now lo.

By the way... I always thought it was "lor"... Wtf is a "lo"?! *rolls eyes*

The only thing that surprised me is that you didn't include more details on yourself in your fascinating little message. Like your pants inseam measurements, how deep your ear canal is, how long your toenails are, your dick girth...

Sorry dude but in this case, fate's telling you to look elsewhere for friends. In fact, fate's SCREAMING it in your face right about now. You should listen to her. :P

Subject: Good Night!
Message: hi nice to meet you, if you wish to know mefurther, i will tell you more about myself. I'm30/m/singaporean/chinese/single/1.78m tall/single. hear from you soon... - Wilson -

From the amount of information you've provided, it's apparent that you don't really give a shit as to whether I wished to know more. Which, incidently, I didn't. *yawn* Errr...

Top marks for the subject heading though. Would you believe that, out of the 47 messages I received, you're 1 of 2 people who didn't use the word "April", "hi" or "hello" in it?!

(By the way, I know I'm complaining when a chap gives too little information and I'm complaining when he floods me with details. I'm deliberately hard to please. Bite me. :P)

Subject: hi
Message: Hi, I am sending this mail to intro myself and wish to be fren!.If u feel offended by this mail please accept my apology.,if u wish that we could be fren, pls let me know. so I can continue email you via this channel and who noe v might find something in common interest.Cheers:P

Yes, I'm offended. Not so much by the mail as by your bad grammar and abuse of punctuation. And no, I don't wish for us to be "fren". Double cheers mate!

Ok. I'm done ranting for today. *takes a deep breath and beams* And to be fair, the last message I got wasn't all that bad...

Victor - If you see this, thanks for the note. I'm glad you like my blog and that my warped, pointless rambling amuses you... I'm sorry for not replying on Friendster but I find it too much of a hassle, even with friends. Leave me a link if you happen to blog too and I'll pop by once in a while instead, ok?

See everyone, I can be nice. When I want to be. *smirk* ;)

About The Happy

I love Photoshop. Heh... And though I lack XX's knack for extensive digital imaging, I know enough to do a decent enough job of covering up the worst of my physical flaws. *grin*

On the left's a shot of me with some colleagues (From left: J, Kevin, Me & Nigel), taken at Happy a couple of Fridays ago.

After I've removed my eyebags, dark rings, crow feet and pasty complexion, you can hardly tell that it was the end of a 65 hour week. Add in a little rosiness around my cheeks and I'm practically glowing! Heh heh...

Shot on the right is of me trying to deter Jaime from butting into the photo of me and Nigel. (As you can see, being-serving, narcissistic cow that she is, I wasn't too successful... *smirks*)

About Getting Away

Since work isn't as crazy this week (And since my best friend has promised me that she'll take a few days off for us to take a short break from work!), I spent some time surfing around for possible holiday destinations.

At the moment, our options are:
  1. Bangkok - Airfare is between $118 (Valueair) to $160 (Cathay Pacific)... Accommodation is about $50 per person per night at the Novotel Siam Square...
  2. Hong Kong - 3D2N package on Cathay Pacific costs $388 ($140 per person per night extension)... Accommodation is at the Metropark Hotel in Causeway Bay...
  3. Phuket - Airfare costs $168 (SilkAir)... Accommodation ranges between $65 to $75 per person per night (for the Dusit Laguna, the Laguna Beach Resort, and the Sheraton Grande Laguna, all of which look totally gorgeous on the web)...
Any suggestions are welcome!!! Especially if you know of some funky, undiscovered spa resort / boutique hotel / blah blah blah...

Also, PLEASE give me other options for both short city or beach getaways... Somewhere suitable for a 4D3N or 5D4N holiday?

About 一路向北

For those of you who've seen "Intitial D" and who love Jay as much as I do...

Download his latest angst-filled love song
here... Lyrics below. :)

About The Goggle Box

RAVE OF THE DAY....

I've added "One Tree Hill" to my list of favorite TV shows. At 1st, I passed it off as another teen soap opera (Like Dawson's Creek... Eeerrrgh!)... But after drifting through several episodes, I hafta admit it's a pretty good entertainment. I like the way it depicts young people today, the issues and complications of their lives, their loves, their losses. How nothing is in black and white and everything is a myraid of greys.

RANT OF THE DAY...

On the other hand, "The O.C" has dropped several huge notches in my estimation. I feel that the storyline, if there ever was 1, has been buried amidst the characters' neurosis... And it's hard to see more than a bunch of rich kids (And adults) not being able to be happy unless they fuck up their own lives, and the lives of everyone around them. *yawn*

I'm tired. I'm gonna take a long hot shower, steam away the kinks in my back and neck, rub myself down with scented lotion, pop another Ponstan and head to bed.

Thank god it's Friday. :)
