The company trip to Phuket, which was originally scheduled to take place from the 6th to the 8th of May, has been postponed. To August. Due to a lack of attendance.
Ah well... On the bright side, that means I have another 4 months to lose the flab before I have to don a bikini in front of the world.
Bleah.

About The Panadol
I'm sick. Again. The cold that's been nagging at me for the entire week finally decided to turn around and grab me by the throat yesterday, when The Stiletto and I drove up to JB. Yes. JB. Again.
Anyway, I went to the Guardian Pharmacy at Holiday Plaza to get some cold / flu tablets to ease the sneezing fits (12 times in a row. How about that?) and runny nose (I was dripping like a fricking leaky faucet!). Guess what? I couldn't buy any. Because the Pharmacist wasn't available till 7pm.
Panadol Cold and Panadol Flu are apparently prescription drugs. The only stuff you can buy off the shelf are normal Panadol, children's panadol, Panadol Actifast and Actal.
How fucking spastic is that?! Can anybody explain to me why this is so? Malaysia sucks sometimes...

About Melbourne (Part 2)
On with my little photo blog of our recent Melbourne trip...
DAY 4 - SUNDAY, 26 MARCH, 2006
We got up pretty early on our 1st Sunday in Melbourne to soak up some sun as we strolled along the St Kilda beach market, as well as have a huge brekkie...

After a tram ride riddled with loud Italian boys blasting gangsta rap, flexing their muscles and trying to accentuate their manhood by yelling at each other every 2 minutes, we reached our destination.

We were really happy to get off the tram, I tell you... :P

Strolling along the beach market, I came across a rather strange sight...

Somebody really didn't like this stuffed dog... Poor doggie. :(

We then got to St Kilda's famous Acland Cake Shop, where we ordered yummy bacon and eggs. And toast. And ice coffee. I tend to forget that ice coffee in Melbourne is always served with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream... Which doesn't make it the healthiest drink to start off the day with, but it sure as hell makes it the yummiest!

Deciding to walk off some of the calories, The Stiletto and I strolled along the market (Sweating like hell in 30 degree sunshine!), where I ended up buying the prettiest, hand-painted waist pouch...

The Stiletto passed time taking snapshots of our rather gorgeous surroundings.

I remember standing there and marvelling at how blue the skies were, how fresh the air was and how absolutely wonderful I felt. :)
By the way, don't you just love my new skirt from Esprit? Gorgeous colors... Melbourne's been hit by this whole boho craze, which I love... And the best part? I got this at a whopping discount. Only paid A$24 for it I think. Esprit! A$24! Woooooot!

The Stiletto got quite fascinated by this ark looking thingie. I suspect that he really wanted me to photograph the bikini-clad chickies lying in front of the wooden rotting boat thingie. He's denying it though. Smart boy. Hehe...

There was some sandcastle building / sculpture competition going on... I was amazed at how detailed this 1 of Luna Park was. Still can't over my skirt. Pretty skirt, pretty skirt, pretty skirt, pretty skirt, pretty skirt, pretty skirt!!!

I love this shot of the both of us. Believe it or not, it was totally candid. We were walking, and The Stiletto just stuck his arm out and snapped this.
It got even hotter, which made for 2 extremely thirsty people...

So we made our way back towards the bistros and cafes that littered Acland Street for a couple of Diet Cokes and beers... After spending some time catching up with 2 old friends I haven't seen in yonks, we decided to head back to the city for a shower and nap before dinner. (Lygon Sreet! Garlic sirloin steak, yummy aglio olio pasta and Bacio gelate!!! Omg... All the extra pounds I put on from that meal alone was worth it...)

Of course, walking past the saliva-inducing window displays of tarts and cakes and pies and pastries, The Stiletto got tempted. Which meant we ended up balancing a paper bag of strawberry cheesecake and Acland's famous fruit tart on our laps all the way back on the tram...
DAY 5 - MONDAY, 27 MARCH, 2006
I didn't feel like heading out or doing anything, so we stayed in and played slug for most of the day... The Stiletto had brought his laptop up so I whiled the afternoon away playing Zoo Tycoon 2. He finally dragged me away from it long enough to have dinner along Chinatown. (The avocado handrolls my boy packed away for lunch couldn't last forever I guess...)

After hot prawn porridge, roast duck and rice, I brought The Stiletto to another 1 of my old haunts... This little lounge / bar nestled in a dark alley... The Gin Palace. Plush, mis-matched sofas... Chilled white wine... Dark crooks and crannies, perfect to hole up in and hold private conversations...

Not that we talked much.

Our timing and aim, however...

Could've used a little work... Hehe...

Which got me a little annoyed. :P

Nice us.

Nasty us.
Which brings me to the end of my post for today. It's late, I'm tired and The Stiletto's got Buffy on DVD. So I'm gonna go snuggle up with my man and get started on my long weekend. :)
Aside to Slinky - The spoils post will come. I promise. Heh... Can't wait to read yours! ;)

About Melbourne (Part 1)
I've finally decided to sit myself down and blog about my recent Melbourne trip. (Figured I'd better do it now before I totally forget what we did and where we went... Especially with me getting older, my memory isn't what it use to be. Haha...)
DAY 1 - THURSDAY, 23 MARCH, 2006
The Stiletto and I got to the airport at 3pm. 4 hours before our flight was scheduled to depart. Yes. 4 hours. Heh... I was of the theory that the sooner we got to the airport, the sooner our vacation started. And I wanted to be able to take a very leisurely browse through DFS. I ended up shopping even before I left Singapore. Bought 2 very cute tops from Giordano Ladies. Woot!
Oh. And I hereby swear that this is the 1st and LAST time I am flying British Airways. The seats were highly uncomfortable, the food was unpalatable to say the least and the crew didn't bother very much with any passenger that wasn't Caucasian. World's favorite airline my big, fat, hairy toe! Bleah...
Our flight took off 20 minutes late. Surprisingly though, we made good time, touching down in Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport a mere 7 hours later at 5.20am...
DAY 2 - FRIDAY, 24 MARCH, 2006
Since taxis in Melbourne are horrendously expensive, The Stiletto and I had decided against taking a cab from the airport. Instead, we opted for the Skybus Super Shuttle, which proved to be extremely efficient in transferring us and several other passengers to our respective accommodations in the city... All for A$24 per pax return. A taxi would have cost us twice as much at least!
Seeing that we made such good time, The Stiletto and I found ourselves at our service apartment much earlier than expected. (I was a little spaced out by this point, not having slept much on the plane but I remember the sun hadn't yet risen, so it must've been around 6.45am?) Since check-in wasn't until 10am, we dumped our bags with the desk and made our way to Queen Victoria Market for breakfast... Or brekkie, as the Aussies call it. :)

The best way to start a day, in my opinion... 6 piping hot, freshly-made, sugar-coated jelly donuts, a scrambled egg and bacon bagel, and deliciously foamy lattes. I don't know why but for some reason, the coffee in Melbourne tastes a million times better than anything you can find here. Damn but I miss it already... Starbucks, schmarbucks...
After we stuffed our faces, The Stiletto and I wandered around the city for a bit. Unfortunately, by 9am, all the coffee in the world couldn't keep our energy levels up and we were practically staggering with fatigue. Praying that our apartment would be ready early, we trudged back, only to be told that we had to wait another half hour. I remember us giving vaguely dopey smiles, plopping our exhausted butts down on the reception's sofa and promptly falling asleep, not stirring till the nice folks there woke us up and handed us our keys...
A 4-hour nap later, we were raring to go. Well... Sort of lah. Actually, more than anything, I think it was a constant, gnawing hunger that made us drag ourselves out of bed.

I decided to introduce The Stiletto to my favorite sushi stall at Target Centre along Bourke Street... It didn't take him long to become a huge fan of their avocado handroll (He ended up having it 3 more times during our trip!). To me, the teriyaki chicken continues to kick ass! Yummm...

It was a beautiful autumn afternoon and Bourke Street was bustling with shoppers...

For the time being, however, we were quite content lounging around at Gloria Jeans Coffee, nibbling our handrolls, sipping our lattes and posing for silly photos... (Btw, it was in the pic above that I realised my hair's too bloody long. I look like a freaking farmer's wife!)
Friday = Extended shopping hours in the city. However, with our late start, we only managed to cover Target, Myers and last but not least, Melbourne Central, where the biggest highlight seemed to be this very cool LCD screen...

We were looking for the Sportsgirl store and ended up getting kinda lost amidst the hundreds of shops at the new Melbourne Central. After trying in vain to get my bearings, I spotted this huge touchscreen TV... Which very funkily gave us directions, maps and arrows and all, on the shortest way to get to our desired destination. How cool is that? Heh...
The Stiletto decided to cook me dinner so we then raided Safeway for steaks, pork chops, fresh mushrooms and frozen fries... A$50 worth of groceries. For a single meal!
After yet another pig out, we decided to get an early night and start bright and fresh the next day... Bridge Road baby! Woohoo!!!
DAY 3 - SATURDAY, 25 MARCH, 2006

Us, opposite Flinders Street Station, waiting for the number 48 or 75 tram to take us to Bridge Road, home to fashion factory outlets and good food... That's St Pauls Cathedral in the background...

Here's a clearer shot... Click here for a virtual tour of the cathedral...
A short tram ride later, we found ourselves outside a small hotel / pub...

Where we had a truly excellent lunch. Bangers and mash for me... Roast chicken and parmesan ravioli for The Stiletto... Yes, yes, I know the sausages look extremely phallic... But they were extremely yummy! :P

We then attempted to walk off that huge meal by plowing through the myraid of shops along the stretch... Review. Portmans. Dotti. Witchery. Bendon. Nine West. Surprisingly, neither The Stiletto nor I managed to get the retail therapy we wanted... Until we hit the Esprit factory outlet. Well... Let's just say that my credit card's still in therapy... :(
5.30pm and it was time to head back to the city... I hate how shops close so damn early in Melbourne. I mean, you get into this whole shopping groove but before you know it, they're nudging you out of the store. Grrr...

Since it was a little early to head home, we lazed around 1 of my old haunts, L'incontro, nursing another couple of lattes.

I snapped this as we walked back to the apartment... Not sure why it turned out this way... I look kinda freaky / ghostly, huh? Eeep... (And my hair looks awfully flat! Ick!)

Bong 360. Hahaha! (Sorry... Private joke. :P)

We kept getting asked if we were on our honeymoon. Errr... Now I wonder why people were getting that impression? :P Heh heh... Please lah, honeymoon in Melbourne? Do I look like such a cheapskate? Hahaha...

New top I just bought. A little more conservative and sweetie-pie than I what normally wear, but it's so pretty, don't you think? ;)

Later that same night, just before we made our way to Crown for dinner at Greco. I don't think The Stiletto has fully recovered from his experience with their strawberry cheesecake yet... Heh...
That pretty much sums up our 1st 3 days... More to come in subsequent posts... I can't be bothered to resize and upload all the photos at 1 shot... :P

About The Lead
13 April 2006. That's the latest date to look out for in my book. Why? That's when "Take The Lead" is released in Singapore...
This movie's definitely on my list to watch because, hey, Antonio Banderas in a Latin-meets-Hiphop dance flick... How far wrong can it go?

Watch the trailer here. The official website also has this funky munky game that allows you to choreograph your own little dance routine to preset music.
I can't help but wonder if The Stiletto (Who's currently away in HCM for work...) will mind me salivating as I watch this flick... I've always been a sucker for broody Latino men who can sing and dance and speak with an accent. :P

About Another Candle
The Stiletto has very sneakily managed to buy me a birthday present despite me keeping what I thought was an eagle's eye on him. Last night, I woke up from my nap to find him stroking my face... As the clock ticked towards midnight, he grinned down at me, nagged me to take a shower before I drifted off again and then casually pointed towards a paper bag on the computer table.
A blue paper bag.
A turquoise blue paper bag.
Girls, I'm sure you know the significance of receiving something like this. It can only mean 1 thing. Jewellery. Tiffany jewellery. God help me, but I wasn't above joyful squealing (The sound distinctly resembled a piglet on speed...) as I drooled over the signature box tied up, oh-so-prettily, with white satin ribbon...
Aside to The Stiletto: Thanks baby. I don't know how you read my mind because I've never even mentioned wanting the mesh ring but you sure as hell hit the nail on the head. :)

I thought that was it. Then, this morning, I walked into the office to find a huuuuuuuuuuge bunch of the most gorgeous lilies propped up on my chair. The damn bouquet was almost as big the upper half of my body...
Aside to The Stiletto: I thought I was only gonna get flowers after a major quarrel? Hahaha... You do realise that I am so going to be looking for ways and means to pick a fight moving forward, right? *snigger*

Then the office people bought me a uber rich cream cake and everyone gathered to sing me a birthday song. Awwwww...
All this, and I still have a nice dinner to look forward to tonight and tomorrow night, plus a girls high tea on Saturday.
Heh... And I thought it'd suck to turn 28. :P

About "The One"
A girlfriend of mine recently admitted that she knows the guy she's seeing now is not "The One", i.e. He's not the one she's going to marry, the one she wants to wake up to every morning for the next 50 years, the one who'll share her life's dreams, hopes, sorrows and joys...
When the hell did we come up with the concept of "The One"? How can we think that there's only 1 person each of us is meant to be with in this lifetime? Does this mean that, before I meet "The One", the times I fell in love were moments of temporary insanity, gross exaggeration or self-delusion? I find that difficult to believe...
And how do you go about determining if someone's "The One" anyway? Is there some mental checklist the person has to fulfill before he or she qualifies? Do you wake up 1 morning with a sudden epiphany? Does a damn lightbulb suddenly go on above the other person's head to illuminate the fact? If it boils down to just being able to picture the rest of your life with him or her, then wouldn't the fact that you can only see it happening with 1 person mean that you're probably extremely difficult to get along with? :P
And what the hell does finding "The One" signify? That your relationship will be perfect? That you'll live happily ever after? Even the most idealistic moron on earth couldn't possibily think that... I know of so many people who've claimed to have found their soulmate, only to have love die on them further down the road. (If those soulmates were "The Ones", then these friends of mine are pretty much doomed to lives of loneliness, or to ones of settling for third rate relationships. All at the ripe ol' age of 20-freaking-8. Cheerful thought, eh?)
I guess I'm of the opinion that all of us have many "Ones" in our lives. I believe the few guys I was seriously involved with were the "Ones" for me at those particular points in my life. They've all led to where and what I am today. There'll come a day when I decide to settle down with someone. Not because I'll know that he's "The One", but because I've decided that I want to. No cosmic karma. No sudden epiphany. No theatrical finale.

About The Return
It's amazing how fast time flies when you're having fun, i.e. Not slogging away at work.
The Stiletto and I spent a few minutes contemplating the microwave in our service apartment yesterday, wondering how effective it would be at totally destroying our passports and delaying our imminent return home. Deciding that it'd be relatively difficult to pass the whole thing off as an accident, we resignedly packed our bags and trudged to the airport.
Anyway... I'm back. Melbourne was a blast. Blah blah blah. Pics of our trip to be posted soon. It's now my credit card's turn to go on vacation. A really, really long one. :(
